According to majority of teachers’ opinion (47%), sex education
should be taught at school by a psychologist.
VIII-X grades are the most suitable ones to start this subject.
Although the subject of making sex eduction part of formal education is still controversial in the country, the general importance of sex education in forming correct opinions about human sexuality and acquiring sexual knowledge is not up for debate.
“IPM Research” got interested in teachers’ opinion concerning the subject. A survey was conducted among teachers of 9-12 grades all across Georgia with 1216 teachers participating in it.

Almost half of surveyed teachers (49%) think that having sex education in school is necessary for students, while 38% holds opposite opinion. Significant amount of teachers - 13% had difficulty of answering the question (see Chart #1).


Question which grade should sexual education be taught from had mixed answers from teachers. 19% doesn’t unequivocally support the idea of teaching such subject in general education institutions, while 12% had difficulty of answering the question. Out of those who actually named the grades, majority thinks that it’s appropriate to start sex education in 8 th , 9 th or 10 th grade (see Chart #2).
