Through exchange programs, Georgian students
go most often to German Universities.
While they’re studying at universities, Georgian students have an opportunity to go study in different universities abroad with the help of exchange programs. But not every student uses this opportunity. The topic of this article is Georgian students’ experience studying abroad, their plans to study and obstacles they face. 2
As it turns out, 3,5% of Georgian students have experience studying abroad; 50,9% hasn’t been abroad to study but plans to go; and 45,6% neither has been, nor is planning to.

Those students that have decided not to go abroad to study gave their reasons why. The reason named most often is additional financial burden (16%), also insufficient skills in foreign language (11%) and problems with access regulations to the preferred country, like visa, residence permit, etc. (10%).

Among those Georgian students that have participated in exchange programs, most studied at German universities (18,8%). Study programs at Turkish universities take the second place (6,6%).

Georgians aren’t exceptional in this regard – Germany is the country named most often as a host of exchange programs among other European students too.
