Adjara is the most popular region
among Georgians for tourist purposes.

Despite the growing tendency of leaving the country for tourist purposes increasing in Georgia, many Georgians still spend summer in their own country. It’s interesting which regions Georgians visit as tourists in their own country. To find out, IPM surveyed 1500 people nationwide.
As it turns out, almost every fourth person surveyed (24,9%) hasn’t visited any of the Georgian regions for tourist purposes in the last 5 years. As for those respondents who have visited at least one region for tourist purposes, most of them have visited Adjara (23,3%). 1 Also, major number of respondents have also visited Racha (21,3%).

As a result of survey it turned out that Georgians spend on average 680GEL on each tourist visit
inside the country. Data received from the Agency of Protected Areas is also important. According to it the number of visitors to the protected areas of Georgia has increased in the last 5 years. 2 Despite the fact that the Agency’s numbers combine the amount of Georgian and Foreign visitors, it’s still clear that domestic tourism is becoming more popular in Georgia.

Though, if we consider the results of the survey, where 24,9% of respondents haven’t visited any of the regions in Georgia as tourists in last 5 years, while regions like Pshav-Khevsureti and Tusheti were named by a very small number (2.1% and 1,4%, respectively), we can still say that Georgian regions are still to be discovered by Georgians.
